Dr. Charles Self (1950-2018)
On Thursday, May 24, Dr. Charles Self passed from this life to his eternal reward in Heaven. In honor of Dr. Self’s life, ministry, and love for Nazarene Bible College, this Communicator will be dedicated to his memory.
Dr. Self served Nazarene Bible College for 16 years. During that time he advised and supported thousands of online and campus students. In my travels, I often met students whom Dr. Self had encouraged and guided in their studies. They regularly asked me to tell Dr. Self “hello” when I saw him.
When the graduates came for commencement, they often sought out Dr. Self to thank him for his support and help. Dr. Self also served as an adjunct instructor on campus and online. He was always willing to help when needed. He assisted our faculty and students as a technical advisor when they were struggling with computer issues. One adjunct instructor wrote, “Chuck was my go-to-guy whenever I had a problem with my computer.” Another adjunct instructor wrote, “Chuck helped me many, many times. He was always patient with my questions.”
Whenever I brought visitors through the online department, Chuck would greet them with a warm smile and handshake. I recall seeing him walking around the Apostle’s Court during his lunch break, camera in hand, ready to capture what his eye and heart saw.
We honor the memory of Dr. Charles Self, a faithful follower and servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Kathy and family during this time of loss. “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.”
