BLE3604 - Adult and Professional Development

Course Description

A course introducing the student to adult development theory to form a cognitive basis for personal analysis and understanding. The student will further be introduced to adult learning theory to equip them to be lifelong learners. Students will be instructed in Prior Learning Assessment and Portfolio Development.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand and develop life management skills based upon "People Centered" and "Principle Centered" values as taught in the text.
  2. Explain the key concepts and principles of personal development, relate them to his or her own style of learning, and develop a lifelong learning plan that is reflective of these developmental principles and his or her learning strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Write a personal life mission statement, explain key principles related to achieving that mission, and apply those principles in writing a personal life development plan.
  4. Identify your talents and develop them into strengths. Students will take the StrengthsFinders Assessment (code will be located in the purchased textbook). Through the Discussion Thread, students will discuss their unique combination of strengths to help them become more productive, perform better, and more engaged in ministry and/or their workplace.
  5. Explain the key principles and practices involved in planning, documenting, and assessing personal experiential learning, apply these principles and practices through the process of prior learning assessment, identify learning experiences from his or her own background that would be appropriate for prior learning assessment, and develop a portfolio narrative article for a learning activity that applies these concepts and principles.
