Dr. John C. Bowling
Press Release on behalf of NBC Board of Trustees
The Nazarene Bible College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Dr. John C. Bowling as the interim president. He will assume leadership on March 1, 2025.
Dr. Bowling’s distinguished career in Christian higher education spans three decades, as the longest-serving president of Olivet Nazarene University. He also held the positions of senior pastor of the College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and senior pastor of Dallas First Church of the Nazarene in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, he has been a faculty member at Nazarene Bible College and Olivet Nazarene University.
Beyond his ministry and higher education endeavors, Dr. Bowling has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Nazarene Publishing House and the Church of the Nazarene Foundation Board. He has also been a past member of the USA/Canada Council of Education and the International Board of Education for the Church of the Nazarene. Furthermore, Dr. Bowling is a published author of four books and over 60 published articles.
Through a thorough and rigorous search process, we have identified Dr. John Bowling as a desirable candidate to lead NBC through this period of transition. His extensive experience, unwavering drive, and profound passion make him well-equipped to guide NBC effectively.
“We are confident that through prayerful discernment and divine providence, the selection of Dr. John Bowling brings to NBC a leader who possesses the requisite leadership abilities, and significant grasp of the mission of the Church, with qualities to lead NBC during this interim season” said Dr. Phillip Fuller, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Nazarene Bible College was established to address the need for ministerial training for non-traditional students. Within the USA/Canada region, NBC stands out in a complementary manner from the roles of the denomination’s regional colleges and universities.
Despite the evolving landscape of higher education, particularly regarding online delivery systems, the mission and role of NBC remain paramount. Dr. Bowling is eager to contribute to the next chapter of the College’s service to the Church.
Dr. John C. Bowling assumes the leadership role from Dr. Scott Sherwood, who has accepted the call to pastor Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene.

La Junta Directiva del Colegio Bíblico Nazareno se complace en anunciar la elección unánime del Dr. John C. Bowling como presidente interino. Asumirá el liderazgo el 1 de marzo de 2024.
La distinguida carrera del Dr. Bowling en la educación superior cristiana abarca tres décadas, como el presidente más longevo de la Universidad Nazarena Olivet. También ocupó los cargos de pastor principal de la Iglesia del Nazareno de la Universidad en Bourbonnais, Illinois, y pastor principal de la Primera Iglesia del Nazareno de Dallas en Dallas, Texas. Además, ha sido miembro de la facultad en el Colegio Bíblico Nazareno y en la Universidad Nazarena Olivet.
Más allá de su ministerio y sus esfuerzos de educación superior, el Dr. Bowling ha servido como miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Casa Nazarena de Publicaciones y de la Junta de la Fundación de la Iglesia del Nazareno. También ha sido miembro del Concilio de Educación de EE.UU./Canadá y de la Junta Internacional de Educación de la Iglesia del Nazareno. Además, el Dr. Bowling es autor de cuatro libros y más de 60 artículos publicados.
