Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Awarded to Rev. Ian Fitzpatrick
Rev. Ian Fitzpatrick was born in Northern Ireland, grew up in the Methodist Church but was a nominal Christian. At 21 years old, in the midst of a very serious illness, he gave his heart and life to Jesus. Following his recovery, he entered a Church of the Nazarene in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. It was in that church that God began to work in his life. He became the Sunday School Superintendent and met his wife Pat, who just happened to be the minister’s daughter.
Ian and Pat went to Beirut, Lebanon to work in an orphanage during the Lebanese Civil War. They ministered there for 3 years. During this time in Lebanon, Ian received a call to preach. He was advised to apply to Nazarene Bible College, which he did. Ian and Pat arrived at NBC in 1981. While a student at NBC, Ian was elected Student Body President.
After graduating from NBC, Ian and Pat returned to Northern Ireland. They moved to the greater Toronto, Canada area, where they pastored two churches over a span of 20 years from 1984 – 2004.
Ian was elected as District Superintendent on the Canada Central District Church of the Nazarene in 2004. For the last 4 years, he has also served as the District Superintendent of the Quebec District Church of the Nazarene.
Ian has served on the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene for the past 12 years. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the General Board and is on the Global Missions Committee. He also serves on the National Board of the Church of the Nazarene Canada.
Ian and Pat have been married almost 40 years and have 3 daughters...Lynsey (married to Kevin), Ashley and Stephanie. They have two wonderful grandsons.
Ian Fitzpatrick has lived an exemplary life of holiness, has served the Church with distinction, and has given himself to the mission of Nazarene Bible College to evangelize, disciples, and minister to our world.
On September 27, 2016, the Nazarene Bible College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to award Rev. David Ian Fitzpatrick the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in recognition of his servant leadership, humble spirit, and faithfulness to the call of God.
