Even the Bottom Can Be Good

Imagine you had been around someone for many years and during that time you observed them in good days and bad. You had grown under their spiritual leadership. You had found them to be a continual source of blessing to your own life and yet suddenly you were made aware that they were about to die. Before they breathed their last, they gave you a final message, a final blessing. How important do you think their final words would be to you?

In Deuteronomy 33, we have such words from the mouth of Moses. He is pronouncing words of blessing upon God’s chosen people. These are words that he intensely desires the people to understand for he is about to die. In Deuteronomy 33:26 & 27, he says, “There is no one like God. He rides across the heavens to help you. He rides on the clouds in His majesty, He is the eternal God, your refuge, and underneath are His everlasting arms.”

It has been suggested that the Hebrew for “underneath” means more than just being under. The Hebrew literally means – the ‘bottom of the bottom.’ Moses is telling the people that the God who has been with them in the past will continue to be with them even in the future. And when you feel you are at the very bottom, he is saying, “Remember, God’s everlasting arms will be even at the bottom of the bottom.”

As we serve Jesus, sometimes we face pressures, and we feel at times that we ourselves, even though we have been faithful to God, are at the very bottom. But the one thing I have found is, if you will be faithful to God, even though there may be times you feel you are at the very bottom, if you will trust Him, even the bottom will be good, because God will be there.
