Decision-Making
Regarding making decisions, Colossians 3:15 immediately comes to my mind, “Let the peace of God rule (govern) in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”
Personally, I have learned over these many years of serving our Lord, that in the decision-making process, when I feel that the decision I’m making is pleasing to Him, I’ll have a peace (His peace) that passes all understanding. And, if I violate that, then I will have a problem.
I heard a message by Dr. Jim Diehl recently when he preached on Psalm 25: 4-5: “Show me, Teach me, Lead me.” Dr. Diehl reminds us about the “promptings, nudges, and checks” of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and how God can… will… show… teach... and lead us as to what He wants us to do and where He wants us to go. Of course, He’s absolutely right. I don’t know how people go through life without Him!
Also, I have found that in decision-making, when you “just don’t feel ready” well…. there’s an old saying, “If there are any doubts, then…don’t!” I had a close friend of mine years ago that was appointed to a position in the church, and he called me and said that he felt “checked” and had doubts about accepting. My advice to him was, “Then don’t take it. You’ll be miserable.” He turned it down, and a few months later, God showed him that he did the right thing. Mind the “prompts & checks” of the Spirit! We never go wrong when we do this.
When we have to make a decision, I know, without a doubt, that God will show us what to do (Psalm 32:8). And when He does, we will have a real peace about it.
