Testimony from an NBC Student

I am so grateful to be a student at NBC. I am in my second year, and I have enjoyed every course so far. I have met the most wonderful professors and gained friendships. I am growing spiritually in the process. I am glad I listened to God and took this leap of faith. His plan is always better than ours.

I am working towards my Bachelor of Arts in Ministry. I began my journey into ministry back in 2009. I finally accepted His call in November 2018. My life took an unforeseen turn, and my marriage fell apart. No one could have prepared me for what I would face over the next 10 years, except for my upbringing and Christian foundation. My story is full of so many of God's miraculous promises and blessings that I still wake up in "awe" of how great and full of love our Lord and Savior truly is. My girls and I are living proof of God's grace, because there is no other way to explain all that transpired in the last ten years.

I will never forget that day as long as I live. My pastor looked at me and said, "Priscilla, this is not your first rodeo, you know what to do?"  I was crying uncontrollably and saying, "No, I don't! God turned his back on me. I don't know where He is. I call out; I scream at Him; He stopped listening to me. I can't hear him anymore." He asked had I ever read the book of Job?" I said, “No!”

He said, “Ok, I am going to pray over you and the girls and this house, and when I leave, I want you to read the book of Job.” I shook my head. Yes, as tears ran down my face. He gathered around us in a circle, prayed over us, and when we said, "Amen," I felt a gasp, as if my heart had restarted, and I was back to myself. It was amazing.

The next day, I couldn't even remember how depleted I had felt. I was my happy, energetic, joyful self. The call to be a pastor started unfolding over the next year. Again, I pushed all His signs aside, knowing there was no way He was calling me to be a preacher. I even argued, saying, “No way!”

My pathway into ministry and the call to become a pastor is such an amazing testimony, I cannot take away the good work of God! In 2019, I was voted unanimously to become a local pastor, and THAT is what brought me to NBC’s door. My pastors highly recommended NBC for my course of study. When I called NBC, I spoke to Gabe Hayes. He was so helpful; he asked me a couple of questions, then began going over all of my different options. At the end of our conversation, his encouraging words inspired me to go big or go home. I committed to becoming a “college mom student" at the ripe old age of 47, and pursue a college degree. I now have two of my daughters as college students also.
