Serving Overseas and Throughout the USA
My name is Mike Reagan, and I live in Homosassa, Florida. I am the Director of Captain and Sergeants Training at the Evangeline Booth College School for Continuing Education. The college is primarily responsible for training Salvation Army officers in a two-year residency program located on the campus. There are three schools on the campus: the School for Officer Training, the School for Continuing Education, and the School for Leadership Training. I am directly responsible for developing and implementing a non-traditional officer training program for individuals who are unable to attend the traditional two-year residency at EBC. I have been with The Salvation Army (TSA) as an Officer since 1967 and have been privileged to serve in a wide range of appointments.
I was born in Gastonia, North Carolina and grew up as a "Tar Heel" fan. I served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1969. Since becoming an officer in TSA, I have served as a hospital administrator in Zambia, regional commander of the Bahamas, and financial secretary in Ghana. Those were highly enjoyable overseas appointments. I have also served in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Maryland. I have been in a variety of ministries: pastor of a church (in Army lingo, “captain of a corps”), administrative appointments, information technology, education, and development work. I have served on the faculty of Evangeline Booth College twice over the years and have been at the college on this tour since 2001. Of the many appointments, I enjoy teaching/training cadets to become officers the most. One of the really enjoyable aspects of my work was leading educational tours (2004 – 2013) to Turkey, Greece, Israel, Egypt, and Italy. These occurred three times each year and varied in length from 9 to 14 days.
I have been heavily involved in developing a cooperative arrangement with Trevecca Nazarene University whereby our cadets are jointly enrolled at TNU when they become students at Evangeline Booth College. This allows cadets to get an early start on their continuing education program and clears the administrative hurdles prior to their commissioning, when they will be overwhelmed with their new responsibilities on the field. I have also been involved in facilitating a more active educational program for commissioned Officers with Nazarene Bible College. I have enjoyed the progressive thinking of the leadership at NBC and Trevecca, which has opened up a range of new educational opportunities for our officers.
I am married to Gloria and have three children and eight grandchildren. My two daughters both have twin boys, so the numbers add up quickly.
My PhD is in Postsecondary and Adult Education. My dissertation focused on adult participation in formal postsecondary education. My Bachelors is in Business Administration, and my Masters is in Humanities. When I find time for hobbies, I enjoy chess, reading, and Braves baseball.
Dr. Michael Reagan has been teaching for NBC since 2006. Director of Captain and Sergeants Training at the Evangeline Booth College School for Continuing Education and Officer with The Salvation Army.
