Living a Life of Faith
Jesus spoke to his disciples in parables, and we read about this in Matthew 13.
We see Jesus speaking to his disciples in many settings, inside homes and the temple, and outside on a hill or from a boat on a lake. We read that when Jesus visited his home town where his family lived, he encountered a lack of faith in Him.
Matthew 13:58 “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.”
Dr. Church told of an experience he had on an airplane with a mother and her three small children. The little 5-year-old of this mother, when entering the airplane, exclaimed emphatically to his mother and everyone else on the plane, “I don’t like this.”
Dr. Church said he sees three type of people on airplanes: prisoners (not wanting to be there), vacationers (relaxing and content), and explorers (curious, enjoying the new experience). This little boy was a combination of a prisoner (did not want to be there) and an explorer (running ahead of his mother onto the plane).
The question came to Dr. Church’s mind, what type of person am I? A prisoner, a vacationer, or an explorer. The question is for all of us. What are we? Prisoners, vacationers, or explorers?
We want to be explorers but sometimes feel like prisoners.
We want to be able to relax.
One thing is for sure. We all need to trust Jesus and be obedient to the Holy Spirit.
May we be people of faith so God can work in and through us.
