Faculty Focus: Dr. Joe Warrington, A Call to Preparation
“A call to ministry is a call to preparation.” – Dr. Joe Warrington
Last September at NBC’s annual Board of Trustees meetings, Dr. Warrington recounted a story about the impact of teaching holiness in our college courses. It’s a beautiful testimony of God’s grace, and you can watch it here.
Joe Warrington received the Lord as his personal savior at age 19 and was called to preach a year later. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries from Circleville Bible College in 1978, his Master of Divinity in Theology from Wesley Biblical Seminary in 1982, and his Doctor of Ministry in Educational Leadership in 2020. He pastors Grace Church of the Nazarene in Colorado Springs, Colorado, besides his duties at NBC.
Dr. Warrington believes “a call to ministry is a call to preparation.” He has seen calls affirmed and ministers encouraged in NBC classes and says the purpose of NBC faculty is “to work together to further the cause” of preparing adults to evangelize, disciple, and minister to the world.
As a young minister in the 1980s and 1990s, Joe Warrington pastored and served as a school administrator in Los Angeles, operating an extension of NBC. Since he had been coming annually to NBC’s Colorado Springs’ campus for in-services, he was familiar with and respected by NBC leadership, and in 1993, he joined the faculty on campus. He has been teaching full time for the College ever since, chairing the Pastoral Ministries department for a time and now as the Director of the Ministry Preparation Program.
There is no question Dr. Warrington loves his students. He calls it a privilege to help guide called ones through ministry training and joyfully stays in contact with many well beyond graduation. Not long ago, a current student in his Introduction to Christian Ministry class quoted a published author who is a former student of Dr. Warrington at NBC. What a testimony!
