Jesus Has Come

Just A Baby

It was just a baby, and we had hoped for a king.

The angels we saw that night must have been our imagining.

They spoke of a boy-child who would be lying in hay.

It was to be a sign to us of a Savior that day.

We needed a Savior to help us with our sin,

So we left there immediately to go to that inn.

It was only a baby, and we had hoped for a king.

Why can’t the angels explain this strange thing?

But there in that barn shed, insignificant and small,

Lay a baby of wonder, full of hope for us all.

We still can’t explain it, the mystery and awe,

Yet somehow we’re certain, it was God’s Son we saw.

God’s Son as a baby—such a contrary thought—

The strongest and the weakest combined in one spot.

But sin is so inbred, from the weak to the strong,

That God paid the whole price, to break sin’s chain of wrong.

So he came as a baby, so vulnerable and weak

To encourage the faint ones, and embolden the weak.

He came as a baby; but with glory we sing:

“Hallelujah for Christmas! Christ now is our King!”
