NBC Announces New Provost, Dr. Rodney Reed

Nazarene Bible College (NBC) is pleased to announce Dr. Rodney Reed as the college’s next provost. He will begin in this new role May 1, working with current NBC Provost Dr. Alan Lyke until his retirement June 30.

Reed has 24 years of Christian higher education experience and previously served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya.

“He will be a great addition to the Cabinet, bringing global perspective to NBC’s primary focus of training adult ministers,” noted NBC President Rev. Doug Pierce.

NBC Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Phillip Fuller says, “What most impressed us was his incredibly deep experience not only in the academy but as a very effective pastor and then as a very effective missionary for the Church of the Nazarene, and all that represents the mission and vision of NBC beautifully. He has amazing credentials and a passion for this kind of work to step into this role. We’re really excited to have him on board. We are anticipating great days ahead for NBC with strength and vision. We are very much looking forward to what the future holds for NBC.”

For 14 years, concluding in 2024, Dr. Reed served as Africa Nazarene University’s (ANU) Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs—its Provost-equivalent position—leading all academic programs. He previously was Chair of the Department of Religion at ANU for 9 years. He also served as pastor and youth minister in churches in Virginia and New Jersey.

“NBC has an amazing track record of preparing men and women for ministry,” Dr. Reed says as he approaches this new service opportunity. “A huge percentage of the active ministers in the Church of the Nazarene in the USA/Canada Region are alumni of NBC. I am honored to be part of extending that legacy. As the Provost of NBC, I will seek to ensure that we understand exactly what that mission means in our ever-changing world with its varied cultural contexts.”

Board Chair Dr. Phillip Fuller also expressed the Board's gratitude “for the incredible ministry that retiring Provost Dr. Alan Lyke has had in this area of leadership. We are deeply in debt for his involvement and investment through the years.”

Nazarene Bible College was established by the denomination in 1967 to provide ministerial training for non-traditional, often second-career students. Within the USA/Canada region, NBC serves in a complementary role to the denomination’s other academic institutions.
