EDU5093 - Introduction to Online Teaching
Course Description
This course examines the role of the online instructor in a highly interactive, fully online, e-learning program. Emphasis is placed on developing the online learning community; building the skills to effectively employ online learning strategies; managing the online class; and implementing new or modifying existing curricula. Prerequisite: Completed bachelor's degree or permission of the instructor.
Course Objectives
The following intended learning outcomes will be achieved by this course:
- Summarize key factors that contribute to the success of an online program. (Knowledge)
- Explain the characteristics that identify a good online instructor. (Comprehension)
- Demonstrate the ability to participate and collaborate in an online class through discussion and the completion of assignments. (Application)
- Illustrate effective online instructional techniques to achieve learning objectives. (Analysis)
- Formulate conclusions about the online learner, online instruction, online course development, online pedagogy/andragogy, and online assessment. (Synthesis)
- Assess the characteristics of the various technology options available in the online environment. (Evaluation)
Course Prerequisites
Completed bachelor's degree or permission of the instructor.
