EDU5093 - Introduction to Online Teaching

Course Description

This course examines the role of the online instructor in a highly interactive, fully online, e-learning program. Emphasis is placed on developing the online learning community; building the skills to effectively employ online learning strategies; managing the online class; and implementing new or modifying existing curricula. Prerequisite: Completed bachelor's degree or permission of the instructor.

Course Objectives

The following intended learning outcomes will be achieved by this course:

  1. Summarize key factors that contribute to the success of an online program. (Knowledge)
  2. Explain the characteristics that identify a good online instructor. (Comprehension)
  3. Demonstrate the ability to participate and collaborate in an online class through discussion and the completion of assignments. (Application)
  4. Illustrate effective online instructional techniques to achieve learning objectives. (Analysis)
  5. Formulate conclusions about the online learner, online instruction, online course development, online pedagogy/andragogy, and online assessment. (Synthesis)
  6. Assess the characteristics of the various technology options available in the online environment. (Evaluation)

Course Prerequisites

Completed bachelor's degree or permission of the instructor.
