NBC on the Road Again

At the National Black Nazarene Conference

“It’s like a giant family reunion!” That’s what NBC alum and current Director of Southside Community Center Rev. Irene Lewis-Wembley said about attending the National Black Nazarene Conference this year. The relationships are not shown by shared last names, though. This family lineage is traced through ministry.

Rev. Irene represented NBC at that event this year, giving her many opportunities to talk to other NBC alumni. She said the former students spanned decades of influence of the Bible college and were an inspiration to her and other mentors there.

She was also active in ministry at this event, presenting a seminar called The Wailing Women: Moving from Wound to Scar, calling Christians to face the reality of mistakes and wrongs committed and to learn to lament and confess and begin the healing process.

Rev. Irene has mentored five ladies on her district into ministry training at NBC, with two more headed this way.

At the Southwest Ohio District Assembly

NBC Provost Dr. Rod Reed in July attended the Southwest Ohio District Assembly near Cincinnati. He was able to speak to the “full house” crowd and took the opportunity to ask all the attendees who had taken any classes from NBC to stand. There were many NBC alumni in attendance, including General Superintendent Christian Sarmiento! What a perfect moment to emphasize the crucial role that NBC plays in the ministerial formation of the Church of the Nazarene.

Dr. Reed was joined in representing the college by current NBC student Nancy Reyna. She is a student in the Hispanic Pastoral Ministries Bachelor’s program and was a great representative of the Bible college.
