Our Church Has a Bright Future!
This Ministry Appreciation Month, NBC's adjunct faculty has an encouraging view of the quality of ministers training for ministry at Nazarene Bible College!
From Rev. Kenneth Paynter, NBC Adjunct Instructor since 2008:
Our church has a bright future! I can say this with confidence for two reasons: The first is because of Christ’s promise to build His Church. The second reason is because I have met the future of our church in the lives of the students I have had the privilege of teaching in my years as an adjunct facilitator.
One particular student stands out as an example: I received an email from this student (let’s call him John) asking for an extension for that week’s assignment. Facilitators get requests for extensions from time-to-time, but this one was different. John’s house had burned to the ground the previous night and he was asking for an extension while he got settled in the hotel room where his family was staying while they figured out where they were going to live. I was impressed with this student’s commitment and stubborn determination to keep going with his ministerial studies despite this family tragedy. John was granted an extension and by the end of the next week had caught up with his assignments and went on to finish strong.
The church that has this caliber of minister filling its ranks is certainly a church with a bright future.
From Rev. Lisa Morrison, NBC Adjunct Instructor since 2007:
I teach Foundations of Women's Ordination on a regular basis. Every class has women who share their negative experiences of being a women called to ministry. I seek to encourage, support, and inspire these women to follow the call of God upon their lives. Recently, one of my students and I conversed regularly via email throughout the course. At the end of the course, she sent me a card stating how much she had appreciated my support, encouragement, and effort in guiding our class through a topic that has deep significance for us as a denomination and for all the women God is calling to be set apart for vocational ministry. Thanks be to God that we have the opportunity to engage with students not only academically, but also personally to prepare them for their respective ministries.
